September 14, 2009The National Museum of Art, also known as the National Gallery of Art, is a massive gallery located in Washington, D.C. The gallery focuses on the art of those who have had historic ties to the United Says of America, with a focus on American, British, Spanish, French, Dutch, Flemish and Italian arts. With a variety of art styles, ranging from paintings to sculptures, there’s a little of something for everyone at the National Museum of Art.
The National Museum of Art is a two building, multi story complex with garden cafe and four wings of galleries. There is a sculpture hall, as well as a Rotunda in the upper floor of the west building. The ground floor is dedicated to prints, drawings, sculptures, decorative arts and is the location of all temporary exhibitions that are currently visiting the museum. The east building contains shops and auditoriums, as well as extra galleries that are used as needed. There are also a great deal of offices and storage facilities located in the east building that is not open to the public.
