The clothes a child wears can be perilous during their early years. There are parts that can be swallowed, trapped or cause strangulation. Temperature appropriate clothing should be worn when necessary. Footwear is also important when thinking about safety during certain activities. Because of the threat of strangulation, if childrens hoodies have a drawstring in the USA, they’re deemed illegal. Kids can get the string caught at the playground or wherever they are and it can trap them around the neck. Retailers have been prosecuted for selling hoodies with drawstrings in.

The three firms were Maran and K.S Trading, Kohl’s department store and Hill Sportswear. Hills was responsible for a drawstring with a hoodies that strangled a child to death.

So you need to buy childrens hoodies which have no strings attached, it is best of they just pull straight over the head.

Harm can come to children who wear the wrong footwear for particular activities. Boots need to be worn for climbing to avoid slips and falls. Shoes with grips should be used on slippery surfaces.

During sleep the right clothes should be worn. Material which is baggy enough to ride up can suffocate very young children. Tight clothes should be worn in bed so no movement occurs in the night. However, the cuffs and collar should not be too tight.

If your child is going to be in extremely hot or cold weather conditions, they need to dress appropriately. Light clothes and a hat should be worn in the sun. They should wear lots of layers in the cold and keep their hands and head covered.

Make sure you don’t put your kids at extra risk by dressing them in risky clothing.
