As a parent who once played with wood trains myself and remember thoroughly enjoying them, I see many confused on how to buy their child their first wooden train set. Lets take a look at the factors when buying wood trains for your kids:

Sometimes the smaller the better
Your child might or may not take to wood trains. It is ideal to start with a small train set, usually with an oval track configuration that comes with one or two trains. Most of the major brands like BRIO Train have these kind of smaller sets.

Purchase only reputable well know brands
Of the many hundred companies that make wood trains and wood train sets, there are only a handful with the trusted reputation and long history of making quality wood toys year after year. One of these brands is Learning Curve, which manufactures the line of Thomas Wooden Railway and has a very stable history for producing quality wood toys. These quality made wood trains are based on the characters from the award winning show and movies of Thomas and his Friends. The other brand that is known for their exceptional quality and standards is BRIO which has been making the BRIO train set for over a hundred years. They are a global company that is recognized for their innovation and quality. Other companies that make wooden train sets are Melisa and Doug and Imaginarium, both lesser known but still make quality wood products.

Expand, Expand, Expand!
The beautiful about buying a brand name train set like Thomas and Brio is that you can interchange them easily. You can buy individual train track pieces, bridges, buildings and even a storage shed. Just see how your child reacts to his wooden trains and you’ll know whether or not it is the right time to expand.

The key is for them to have fun and use their imagination. Your little conductor can be busy for hours with the right wooden train set.
